Should Ghana adopt the USA and the UK way by legalizing Homosexuality in the Country?

Homosexuality is the sexual orientation toward people of the same sex. Aside any legal interpretations, to adopt simply mean to turn to a new way of doing something.  This definitely should be a better way to what is initially practiced. The nations USA and UK are nations found in North America and Northwestern Europe respectively. This topic could not have come at a more convenient time than now. This is a period in the history of our nation where we have experienced an output of views on whether the nation should legalize homosexuality or not. No matter the stands various stakeholders have taken, one thing definitely is missing. Which is the harm the nation stands to suffer or the benefits she stands to derive.

Before I delve into the argument proper, let me state and emphatically that, even the nations in context since 1970s to date, have not fully come to terms whether to legalized the practice or not. As of January, 2013, only nine out of about fifty-four states have legalized homosexuality amidst protest from identifiable social groupings like the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, The Southern Baptist Convention, The Southern Baptist and many other influential groups. This situation bespeaks but one thing, even the originators of such a practice have since not come to terms with any good it can offer them.

My personal opinion on such a debate is against any legislation that would speak for the legalization of homosexuality in Ghana.  The USA and the UK “way” in the topic arguably can be taken for the culture practices of these nations in context. If so, cultural practices across nations differ in a lot of ways though cross-cultural practices can be encouraged but any attempt at such a phenomenon should be for the best not the worst. No cultural practice of the Ghanaian community anywhere in history encourages this way of sexual orientation.

In any way, sex aside its gratification purpose, should necessarily lead to procreation a tool for the continuation of the human race. Homosexuality might meet the former but not the latter. This situation might eventually lead to the wiping out of the human race from the surface of the earth. If one thinks procreation is trivial then analyze this funny analogy brought up by one homosexual activists, Andrew Solomon, “homosexuality should be encouraged because it has promote child adoption” if so? Who then should procreate for others to adopt? Obliviously nobody!

Naturally, every creator or inventor that comes out with a product has manuals attached to them. These manuals prescribe ways by which such products be used without any contradiction. Anal intercourse is the sine qua non of sex for many gay men. The anus is a delicate mechanism of small muscles that comprise an "exit-only" passage. With repeated trauma, friction and stretching, the sphincter loses its tone and its ability to maintain a tight seal. Consequently, anal intercourse leads to leakage of fecal material that can easily become chronic. Research has proven that through anal sex diseases one is open to diseases like Anal Cancer Chlamydia, trachomatis, Cryptosporidium, Giardia lamblia, Herpes simplex virus, Human immune deficiency virus, Gonorrhea,Viralhepatitis types B & C, Syphilis and many other dreaded diseases can be contracted.

Again, homosexuality violates the institution of marriage. Marriage traditionally is defined to be a union of a man and a woman not the other wise. During creation according to Christianity, God after creating a man, created a woman out of his ribs to serve as a wife, there the institution of marriage was established and clearly defined. With the passage of the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) in 1996 at the United States, marriage was explicitly defined in federal law as a union of one man and one woman. Opponents of same-sex marriage in the United States ground their arguments on parenting concerns.

The Southern Baptist Convention says that extending marriage rights to same-sex couples would undercut the conventional purpose of marriage. The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, the Southern Baptist Convention, and National Organization for Marriage argue that children do best when raised by a mother and father, and that legalizing same-sex marriage is, therefore, contrary to the best interests of children. Maggie Gallagher of the National Organization for Marriage in 2008 raised concerns about the impact of same-sex marriage upon religious liberty and upon faith-based charities in the United States. Other arguments against same-sex marriage are based upon concerns that the process of redefining the institution would be a “Pandora’s box".

Researchers into the field have proven that life expectance of homosexuals compared to heterosexuals is very low. Studies have proven that, gay men compare to heterosexual men lose up to twenty years (20) of life expectancy. According to Microsoft Encarta 2009, one of the greatest effects of the practice of homosexuality was the outbreak of the acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) in the early 1980s. The disease first became prevalent among gay men and spread with devastating effect due to the high levels of promiscuity gays are identified with.

No historical antecedent points in favour of any nation that ever practiced homosexuality in the past. Most theological historians have it that, the destruction of the biblical Sodom and Gomorrah stem from her indulgences this immoral act (homosexuality). It might sound unscientific but there are some devout religious men and women who strongly believe that some nations in the past have suffered very devastating natural disasters due to their indulgence in such a practice.

Ghana hierarchically is dominated by Christians, Muslims and the Indigenous Africa traditional believers. All bemoan this kind of sexual orientation. Therefore legalizing such a practice would be a move away from our belief system. We all in a way are entitled to a right, but whatever be our rights must create and ensure a general good. We must not hide under the cloak of enjoyments of right to deteriorate the beautiful Ghanaian society and culture.

To conclude, Sir Bernard Law Montgomery once said “this sort of thing (homosexuality) may be tolerated by the French, but we are British-thank God” definitely “homosexuality may be tolerated by the USA and UK, but we are Ghanaians-thank God.
