Pro Vice-Chancellor for Tezpur University, Professor Vinod Kumar Jain has admonished students against astronomical expectations, lack of time management and bad associations.
In a goodwill message at a day’s lecture addressed by Professor Anna Madill of Leeds University, United Kingdom; he observed as inappropriate, the attitude of placing high demands on one’s self, a situation coupled with keeping bad friends might have contributed to substance abuse within the country.Though acknowledging having no expert knowledge on factors to have occasioned an increase in substance abuse, he reasoned students are able to overcome by getting their priorities right.
He concluded that making regular exercise a habit amidst the courage to say no to bad influence as sure ways to overcome the misnomer.
The near three-hour event was well attended by students and faculty members of the Tezpur University.
The lecture was organised by the Humanities and Social Sciences department, and was under the theme; the big picture, adapting photovoice to enhance psychological, social and cultural insights into, and prevention and treatment of youth substance use in India.
