From zero to hero or from hero to zero; am confused.

Chief Godfred Medicine
US Tilapia, owner, ordered to pay customers GH 740,000; the headline to a back paged story of the Daily Graphic dated, 13th November, 2014 reads.

In the introduction brief, we are made aware, the Kumasi High Court has ordered a certain Chief Godfred Medicine, CEO of US Tilapia to pay 88 customers a whipping amount of GH 740,000 for investments made with the company in the past.

It’s really an attention catching phenomenon.  Could it be the backfiring of intentions of a genuine figure, or he’s really one of the unscrupulous fraudulent characters around?

Not too long ago, in one of my profile articles titled “Chief Godfred Medicine, the Ghanaian version of the biblical Joseph?” I introduced you to what might qualify for an abridged autobiography of a man who currently, is in the grips of the police; Chief Godfred Medicine.

I just don’t want to believe I did fall prey to, if true, a scheme that to an extent has disadvantaged some ordinary Ghanians.

"Ouch! My still maturing “journalistic sojourn” has hit a snag"

Unless you are the only stranger in Jerusalem, you might have been told that; Chief Godfred Medicine is alleged to have been engaged in several fraudulent activities with his conglomerate, Us Group of companies.

“Chief Medicine a fraudster?” interesting things do happen.

I would have to wait for the law enforcement agencies to conclude on the issue, before I know the stand to take.

WHO IS CHIEF MEDICINE?

The answer to who chief Medicine is; can be find in my profile article titled“Chief Godfred Medicine, the Ghanaian version of the Biblical Joseph?”

The findings of the article in question are salient facts from an interview I had with him at his office located off the Nugua-Sakumano stretch of Accra.  And to be emphatic, there was not even a dint of attempt to fad the exploits of the personality in question.

But I again ask the question I have been battling with for answers, “Chief Medicine a fraudster?”

SOME OTHER INTERESTING STUFF

The name Chief Godfred Medicine was all over the media the early part of last year.  He actually was even hosted on no mean a show like the Citi Breakfast Morning show.

In recent times, his restaurant which forms part of a recently inaugurated Medicine Business Complex at Dome was featured on TV3 network’s program“Edziban.”.

The “from zero to hero”book author has for once been on “Smart People.” A motivation centered show hosted by one of the nation’s veteran actress, Selassie Ibrahim on the nation’s broadcaster, GTV.

If only you have heard of US Fm, a commercial radio station situated within the Volta regional capital, Ho; then it is good to know, it forms part of his  conglomerate.

Chief I know is a regular voice on Radio XYZ’s, "the Past & Present of our Days";An inspirational driven program, which purposely is to help inspire its numerous listeners against, losing track of their past . This man invariably without any doubt, has been motivation to many a Ghanaian.

He has visible office structures. Which do not, especially the one said to be the Headquarters of his outfit, off the Nugua stretch look like a rented one? Where it could be said that he’s just one of the numerous unscrupulous beings, who only come around, rent an office space, gather peoples hard earned financial resource only to boot away with it.

Couldn't all these point to a fact that he was in for genuine business?

Let me ask, could a fraudster be that open with his dealings? It’s a puzzle. Just help me solve it.

OTHER PROBABLES, APART FROM BEING A FRAUDSTER

Another question that is very much considerable for a thinking through is,

could it be that he is not a fraudster, but just someone who has fell victim  to not getting the variables right on what his capabilities are, and are not?, Or a rather too ambitious personality who couldn’t get his mathematics right?

Can’t it also be argued that, he even did not bother to seek an expert advice on what he ventured into? ,
or even failed in a proper assessment of the terrain to ascertain whether, he really could have delivered on the investment returns promised the now disgruntled investors.

Well, these are but a few probable, which could well be summed up in the words of a colleague Journalist,

“Promising a 100% return on an investment was quite outrageous; this does not exist in any part of our World today. This could have been a probable cause of his troubles now. He was just too much ambitious, but failed to do proper estimations”

WHERE THE PROBABLES MIGHT BE A FLAW

According to a Daily Guide report, their checks have revealed that the US Group of Companies used to be Unique Shepherd located at Nungua in the Greater Accra Region. The CEO, according to the paper whose name has changed Noble Chief Godfred Medicine,  used to be known as Godfred
Atike Adonu, a native of Dzita- Agbledome in the Keta Municipality.

The paper's source accordingly alleged that Chief Medicine was once prosecuted for similar
reasons some years ago.

Tracing the issue from this angle might lead to, in my opinion very interesting revelations. If there have been such a prosecution in the past, then the prosecutor who handed the case could be of immense help to knowing the real Chief Medicine.

The uncooperative nature of some staff to making investigations into the issue easier, as reported by the same paper, calls for rising of eyebrows.

IF THE MEDIA (JOURNALIST) ERRED, WHO DID NOT ERR?

I am only speaking on probable because; I am in no position to write him off as a fraudster. Probably like you, am only waiting for the description the law would at the end of the day, tag him with.

But if He appears to be, where exactly did the media, or for that matter, the journalist erred?

Is it in cross checking of facts, background checks; or what? Can we in anyway at all, be blamed for the woes of the numerous victims of his failed promises? Hmm…!

We possibly must have erred at one of the mentions, but where else did no other person, apart from the journalist erred?

In one of the numerous news reports on him and his dealings, it is said that, the Bank of Ghana in its list of March 2013 on registered finance-related companies, revealed none of the finance related subsidiaries of the US Group of Companies had been registered. The Group’s money lending company was even said to be without a postal address.

But where sincerely was Bank of Ghana; the licensing authority, when the company started with operations and was taking monies from the public?

The current situation we find ourselves, in my opinion, could have been well averted, if BoG was on top of issues then.

The concern here is: how many of such illegal micro finance institutions; so to say, are in operations, but at the blind side of the BoG( Bank Of Ghana)??? Only waiting for a calculated period to boot away with peoples hard earned resources someday.

On the side of the now disgruntled victim,

Our fault could be lack of expert advice before making the investment. If we did, we could have been told that his alleged promised of a 100% return was a likely facade, or in other words, lacks the feasibility. “If it sounds too good to be true, it probably not far from a lie”

It is very much appreciated our views of how porous the Ghanaian system is. But let’s not forget that, we all as Ghanians, own it a duty to help strengthen the system against any exploitation that might be reasoned on its susceptibility.

Otherwise, we help deepen it porousness. We invariably are part of the system.

If you are not confused as I am, then you might have been privy to extra information apart from the one I have. Do share with me!
